My filming

My filming went quite succesfully. The weather was overcast which suited my filming very well and give me the effect I wanted.

Research into Gangster Genre.

Famous Directors of the gangster genre.
Francos Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola is thought of by many as the director who paved the way for all gangster films. His film The Godfather was a landmark in film making. With it's very understated dialogue and seamless direction it won 3 oscars. Coppola the went on to produce two further installments of the crime franchise.

Martin Scorcese
After Coppola defined the gangster genre Scorcese took it to new heights. With his films Goodfellas and Casino took the gangster genre to heights that not many have reached since.

Script

The script that I have written is now much grittier then before and a lot tenser. I want there tobe a build up to what happens which is why I am using a voice over in my film.

Change In Actors,Location and Script.

I have had to change actors, location and script for my film. This is due to time constraints and actors not being able to record. My location is now an outside carpark mixed with shots of Liverpool city centre. I believe that this gives a feel of uncertainty and tension to the film. I have changed my actor to Richard Smith. He is in place of Matthew Marshall.

Research into the gangster genre.

Famous actors from the gangster genre.

Robert DeNiro
Robert DeNiro is perhaps one of the most iconic movie actors of his time. Known mostly for his roles in gangster films such as 'The Godfather part 2, Goodfellas and Once Upon A Time In America.' Robert DeNiro epitomises what it is to be a gangster. He is slick, cool, and most importantly looks like a hardened killer. Here are some clips of Robert DeNiro's performances.

In this scene without saying a word DeNiro looks deadly and dangerous. He knows that the man he is looking at is about to die by his command but he is totally unfazed. This sums up everything a gangster is about.

Al Pacino

Al Pacino is perhaps the greatest actor of his generation. He is most well known for his epic gangster performances such as ' The Godfather 1, 2 and 3, and Scarface' although he has also received critical acclaim for performances in 'Heat and Scent Of A Woman.'.

He honed his career on the stage in New York, and as a relative unknown won the sought after role of 'Michael Corleone' in The Godfather beating many established film stars to the role.

Al Pacino's acting style, completely submerging himself in the role, makes him compelling to view. He studies his character right the way down to the tiniest detail and this makes him a brilliant actor in the gangster genre.

In this montage scene from Scarface it shows exactly what all gangsters in this genre are after, money, women and to live the dream. In this clip Al Pacino's character even gets the pet tiger he has always dreamed of.

Joe Pesci
No man has ever seemed more of a wise guy then Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci very rarely deviates from the gangster genre. He is completely vicious, whatever he lacks in stature he makes up with sheer violence. Pesci made his name in gangster films such as 'Goodfellas and Casino'.
In this scene from Goodfellas Joe Pesci is every piece the mobster. Although probably the smallest man on the table every person there seems genuinely intimidated by him.

Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando is thought of by many as the greatest actor of all time. He put in stand out performances in films such as 'A Street Car Named Desire and Apocalypse Now' but is perhaps best remembered for his amazing performance as Don Corleone in 'The Godfather part 1'. His career was on the slide by the time he was given this role and the studio was against him being given such an integral role. But he managed to pull out perhaps the greatest performance of his career, if not ever.
This is a clip from one of the most iconic scenes in film history. This is from The Godfather, where Don Corleone is sorting out people's requests on the day of his daughter's weding. He is obviously the head of the family and even in his old age has an air of great intimidation about him. He does not mess around and will get the job done.

Actors for my film

I have cast the actors for my film.

Jake Gillon will play Christopher
'Swifty' Jones. He has the athletic look I am after without having a very large build.

Matthew Marshall will play Sonny Frazier. He isn't particularly large either but I think on screen he has the business look I am after.

Pictures of my location

I have inserted some images of where I would like to shoot my opening scene. My scene is supposed to be based on New Yorks waterfront and I believe that the Albert Dock in liverpool suits this very well. As long as I make sure to keep out any famous Liverpool landmarks I think that this will work perfectly.
